LIVE From Mobile Web Europe: Viewing Web On Mobile; A Strange Dystopian View

Author: James Cameron

Vodafone’s Daniel Appelquist can’t see a future where mobile users are viewing mobile Websites where the content designed for online viewing is just repurposed for the mobile screen.

A future where “we’re wandering around viewing websites repurposed for the mobile screen is a strange dystopian view,” does not appeal to Daniel. He points out that the most successful iPhone apps are those that have a “specific iPhone client and so are designed and optimised for the mobile experience.” It’s an obvious view that is oft overlooked in this industry. Users will interact with the mobile Web in a different way than the PC and designers, application developers and content owners must realise this early if they are to reach a utopian mobile Web user experience.

Daniel also believes that users will spend time to type in urls on their mobiles, perhaps a nod to his involvement with dotMobi.

Peggy adds: James is at Mobile Web Europe today – so look for coverage, anaylsis and more live blogging throughout the day. I’m off to a client meeting in Cologne and then back with posts and a special focus on JumpTap later today.
